Founded by Rocio Carrion, M.S. Food Science, Sierra Safe Solutions was inspired by her journey from the highlands of Cajamarca, Peru, where she earned her degree in Food Engineering, to the United States, where she was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to pursue a Master of Science in Food Science at Washington State University.
The name Sierra comes from the Spanish word for highlands or mountain range, honoring the region where Rocio was born and raised. It reflects the values that shaped her journey—strength, resilience, integrity, and perseverance—and serves as a reminder of the foundation upon which the company was built.
Her career began in the classroom, training artisanal cheesemakers in GMP, sanitation and HACCP in the Cajamarca highlands, and she has been teaching ever since. With more than fifteen years of experience in the food industry, Rocio has since served as a Food Safety and Quality Supervisor, Manager, Consultant, and PrimusGFS Contract Auditor.
At Villa Andina in Peru she secured HACCP certification within six months and led the company through BRC certification for the first time in its history — the first of several first-time certifications she has guided.
Having worked on both sides of the audit process, she understands not only what auditors look for but also the operational challenges companies face in maintaining effective food safety systems. This unique perspective allows Sierra Safe Solutions to develop practical, sustainable solutions that go beyond passing audits—they help businesses build lasting food safety cultures.
